How prioritizing health is a prescription for US prosperity

We’ve been thinking about this concept for a while and it’s nice to see it articulated so well by McKinsey & Company. Great efforts are being made (and must continue) to redefine healthcare as keeping people well, as opposed to just treating illness, by focusing on prevention, value-based care, and looking upstream to address social determinants of health. But, healthcare can also be a major source of economic growth – an asset to be nurtured and grown and not just a liability that we continue to try and control. And, the ROI from such an investment is profound, as it offers the potential for tremendous economic gains while improving individual and societal well-being by addressing critical social needs. Healthcare is economic development.
